As a throwback to the 1996 film “Space Jam,” Nike’s Jordan Brand will release a new collection that honors the movie’s 20th anniversary, along with a globally integrated campaign to introduce the movie to a new audience. Although not confirmed, we suspect all the buzz Nike is building around Space Jam may have to do with rumors that its Cavs athlete LeBron James will be starring in a remake.
As part of the collection, two original pairs of Air Jordans worn in the movie, the Air Jordan XI Retro and the Air Jordan IX Retro, will be reintroduced, along with a new model, the Air Jordan XXXI.
The new Air Jordan XXXI features the iconic Jumpman silhouette, Wings logo and the Swoosh for the first time since its 1985 debut. Updated with the latest innovations, the shoe pays homage while providing performance features. Colorways are also a throwback to the film, summoning Space Jam’s intergalactic theme.
The Space Jam collection also comprises apparel, pulling cues from the movie’s famed rivals, the Tune Squad and the Monstars. The line features both graphics from the original movie and modernized designs that pay homage to the classic black-and-concord colorway and memorable story lines, such as the Bugs Bunny Shakespeare Scene and the Monstars villain uniforms.
