J.C. Penney Co., which filed for bankruptcy proceedings on March 15, disclosed an additional 13 stores it plans to close on top of the 136 being liquidated.

The 13 stores are considered a second phase in the retailer’s “store optimization strategy” with going-out-of-business sales expected to start around July 3.

The 13 stores to be liquidated include Sunnyside, WA; Greenville, MI; Owosso, MI; Omak, WA; Big Rapids, MI; Alma, MI; Bay City, MI; Mt. Pleasant, MI; Hyattsville, MD; Okemos, MI; Bay Shore, NY; Poughkeepsie, NY; and Concord, CA.

Last week, Penney’s commenced closing sales at 136 stores. Penney currently has about 850 locations.

Penney is considering exploring a sale with potential reported suitors including the Simon Property Group, Brookfield Properties, Sycamore and Amazon.
