Oboz footwear has partnered with ITOCHU Corporation, which already distributes several international sporting goods brands, to launch its line of outdoor footwear in Japan this fall.
“Japan represents a significant growth opportunity for Oboz,” said Oboz President and Founder John Connelly. “ITOCHU will be a very strong partner, as they have excellent experience in distributing outdoor footwear and have the relationships throughout Japan to ensure that Oboz will become successful.”
ITOCHU Corporation has a 150-year old history and is a well-established trading group in many industries. In outdoor sporting goods, the company recently distributed Keen footwear for nine years and currently distributes Marmot. Other sporting goods and lifestyle brands currently managed by ITOCHU include Converse, LeSportsac, Penfield and Outdoor Products.
“We are currently showing Oboz products to retail buyers and the feedback is very positive,” said Masaaki Wada, who will manage Oboz’ distribution in Japan. “People say the fit is very good and they can see Oboz’ strengths in its technical design and construction. They recognize that Oboz footwear is designed and built by outdoor enthusiasts.”
Founded in Bozeman, MT in 2008, Oboz is currently available in North America, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Australia, New Zealand, and starting in fall 2014, the United Kingdom.
