Furthering its commitment to transparency and sustainability in the supply chain, ISA TanTec announced its LITE (Low Impact To the Environment) Sourcing concept.
While meeting LWG criteria for purchasing of raw materials, ISA TanTec has now developed a more stringent sourcing protocol under the framework of LITE.
Focusing on the sustainable use of natural resources, accountability in the supply chain and the fair and ethical treatment of animals, the LITE Sourcing concept covers the purchases of cattle hides as well as chemicals, packaging and other materials and assets.
Focused on cattle hide purchases within the LITE Sourcing concept, ISA TanTec has developed its own sourcing protocol under the name of “Greener Pastures.” The protocol has been specifically developed for cattle hides that must meet a number of requirements. All hides in the program are traceable to the farm or ranch by lot with full transparency and documentation and must meet specific animal welfare program requirements including Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) and Beef Quality Assurance Transportation (BQAT). Animal welfare at the time of harvesting is verified by third party independent auditors based upon USDA Humane Handling program protocols. Animals under the program are fed a 100 percent vegetarian diet without animal by-products and raised with no added hormones or antibiotics. ISA TanTec’s Greener Pastures program will feature leathers for both footwear and luxury markets.
In general, the LITE Sourcing program allows customers to ensure their leather sourcing adheres to a high standard of animal welfare, ethical and environmentally sustainable practices. ISA TanTec has always been dedicated to minimizing the environmental footprint in the entire supply chain. “By implementing more responsible sourcing practices in our facilities, together with dedicated suppliers, we can bring a positive social and environmental impact to the communities with which we work,” said Uwe Hutzler, Chief Executive Officer of the ISA TanTec Group.
