Interbike, owned by Emerald Expositions, is exploring a move to mid-to-late June or mid-to-late July. The bicycle industry trade show traditionally runs in mid-September.
According to Bicycle Retailer, Interbike sent an e-mail survey to exhibitors and retailers on Friday. A shorter version is being sent to media this week. Related questions to the earlier move include the timing of product launches, the buy/sell cycle, and when orders are placed by dealers.
The questionnaire also explored whether exhibitors and retailers would consider leaving Las Vegas, where the show has been held since the mid-nineties. Respondents are asked to choose one of four cities: Anaheim, CA; Denver, Salt Lake City as well as Las Vegas.
“We are launching a fact-gathering study of our customers to learn more about how we can improve our offering,” said Interbike’s show director, Pat Hus, in a statement released to media outlets. “Specifically, we have heard interest from participants to explore moving Interbike to the June/July timeframe. This move would change the purpose of Interbike from an end-of-cycle marketing event to more of a product introduction event. In addition, we understand that some participants have grown tired of the Las Vegas location, so we’re also exploring broader interest in a new location.”
The survey introduction adds, “We have had feedback that exhibitors and attendees would find more value in an earlier product introduction/preview timeframe. As such, suppliers might be more inclined to debut product at the show to internal and external sales staff and retailers who want to get a full picture of what the entire industry has to offer. This is a fact-finding mission to shape the future of Interbike. Your input will allow us to make the best–informed decision.”
