Hibbett Sporting Goods, Inc., along with several vendors, recently presented more than $100,000 worth of donations to Smithville Schools in Smithville, MS as part of its Hibbett Sports Operations Sports Renovation program.
The Hibbett Sports Operation Sports Renovation event at Smithville
Schools was dedicated to helping the school recover from destruction and
loss incurred from devastating April tornadoes. The program aimed to
supply sporting goods equipment and other supplies to give the school
some much-needed help. Hibbett Sports and various vendors donated sports
equipment ranging from weight room equipment to technical equipment
such as practice jerseys, travel bags, shoes, bats and balls to help
build the sports programs at the school.
This community service program got its start soon after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005. The catastrophic hurricane damaged or completely destroyed several schools in Hibbett Sports’ area of operations. “There was so much devastation,” said Hibbett Sporting Goods, Inc. VP of Marketing Joy McCord. “We felt we had to do something to help the people of the communities, because they’ve been so good to us. Since then, we have extended the Hibbett Sports Operation Sports Renovation program to include schools in need because of depressed economic conditions.”
On Saturday, Dec. 10, a group of Hibbett Sports employees and volunteers gathered to help the school clean up their facility as well as organize all of the donations from Hibbett Sports and its partners. On Monday, December 12, the school was to be presented with all of the donations during an assembly, and Hibbett planned to provide all 535 students with a Hibbett Sports goody bag.
