Tom Herbst will resign as CEO at ARCTERYX Equipment Inc. effective January 31, 2005. Herbst, most of whose 30+ years in the outdoor industry were at the helm of Mountain Equipment Co-op, joined ARCTERYX as a shareholder and adviser in 1998. He became CEO in January 2002 following the sale of the company to the adidas-Salomon Group.
“One of my goals has been to semi-retire at an age where I could enjoy my time while continuing to help ARCTERYX in anyway I can,” says Herbst, who will remain with the company in a part-time consigliere role.
Succeeding Herbst is one of the companys early employees, Tyler Jordan. Currently Senior VP of Finance and Operations, Jordan has been with ARCTERYX since 1993 and is also a former shareholder. Jordan has been a key member of the team for eleven years, participating in all of the companys significant milestones from the Vapor Harness to technical outerwear.
“I am really excited for ARCTERYX and for Tyler. TJ embodies the spirit of ARCTERYX and his passion, experience and drive will make the brand even more successful in the years to come,” Herbst added.
“It is an honour to work at such an exceptional company,” says Jordan. “My role will be to focus the energy and creativity of a tremendously talented group of people.”
Jean-Luc Diard, Managing Director of Salomon Sports, says “I want to thank Tom for his efforts and welcome Tyler in his new role. I am confident there will be a seamless transition and that ARCTERYX will continue to lead the industry in design, quality and innovation.”
