The Hockey Equipment Certification Council (HECC), which was established through USA Hockey and a coalition of industry manufacturers with the aim of creating standards for rules of play and safety requirements for U.S. amateur hockey, filed a lawsuit against Warwick Mask and Equipment, Inc. for trademark infringement, claiming that Warwick intentionally used a label similar to that affixed to HECC certified equipment on its own products that had not undergone the process.

HECC is seeking a cease and desist order against Warwick for the company to stop using the logos as well as a recall of all products it feels are infringing. In addtion, the council is seeking compensation for court costs, legal fees, and damages.
