The Health & Fitness Association (formerly IHRSA) hired Singapore-based attorney and international industry advocate Sean Tan as the group’s senior representative in Asia.
In this position, Tan will help increase association and convention participation, guide the formation and expansion of regional and national federations and industry partner organizations, coordinate with other regional organizations, expand the association’s membership base, profile and exposure, and represent the organization at a variety of public, government and NGO events in the region.
Tan is the founder and CEO of RX Health, president and co-founder of the Singapore Fitness Alliance, the director of growth and strategy for POP Padel, and group legal advisor for Technovator International Limited (HKEx 1206). He was the chairman of the True Group and, previously, worked as group legal advisor for Neon Holdings Limited (HKEx 1868) and Tongfang Kontafarma Holdings Limited (HKEx 1312). Tan was COO and co-founder of Football Asia. He was also on-site legal counsel to the Singapore team during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Tan is a former treasurer and council member of WorldActive and an attorney who earned his LLB at the National University of Singapore, where he was student council president. He is a board member of the charity Smile Asia.
“There are few health and fitness industry leaders as successful and well-known in Asia as Sean Tan. His background as an entrepreneur, thought leader, and industry advocate will well serve the association’s members and support our federation partners. He will be a valued and prominent member of our team in a region that is a hub of activity for fitness facilities of all sizes, industry organizations, equipment and technology development and production, and home to a diverse population and thriving national and regional economies,” said association president and CEO Liz Clark.
“I have witnessed and experienced the benefits of having a national industry association, which helps to pull together the entire industry,” said Tan. “I am excited about the opportunity to represent the Health & Fitness Association serving this industry in a vital region and to help support the work our industry does to improve physical and mental health in Asia and around the world.”
“As CEO of Ausactive, I enthusiastically welcome Sean into his new position as Asia representative of the Health & Fitness Association. Sean brings integrity, enthusiasm, and creativity to the role, and I look forward to working with him to advance our shared interests and ambitions for the sector in this fast-growing and important region,” said Barrie Elvish, CEO of AUSactive.
“I am very supportive of Sean’s new role in enabling the Health & Fitness Association to further support the industry in Asia Pacific,” added Richard Beddie, CEO of the Exercise Association of New Zealand. “Having worked with Sean on a number of initiatives, I believe he’s the ideal local candidate with a global understanding.”
