GSI Outdoors has signed an agreement with Nelson Sports Inc to distribute its outdoor cook- and tableware and related accessories in South Korea, effective immediately.

Nelson Sports will sell, market and support GSI Outdoors’ products with the goal of increasing demand and sales in the South Korean outdoor market. The announcement was made by Don Scott, co-owner of GSI Outdoors.

Nelson Sports has been in business since 1998 and is based near Seoul.  Their portfolio of 13 brands includes such prestigious companies as Arc’teryx and SCARPA, 50 dealers and 18 department stores.

“This alliance represents a blueprint for success in the next few defining years of our Asian expansion plan,” said Scott. “Nelson Sports Inc is well established and recognized as an industry leader in South Korea and has just the right sales distribution for our products. We look forward to helping them grow our business in this very sought-after market.”

Though several outdoor apparel brands have pulled out of South Korea in recent years due to intense competition, the country is considered the second largest market for premium outdoor gear in Asia after Japan due in part to its relatively high per capita income.

GSI Outdoors currently has agreements with 29 distributors that sell into a total of 41 countries located throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia and Africa.
