GSI Commerce founder Michael Rubin has formed Kynetic, a firm focusing on building consumer businesses that will include Fanatics LLC, Rue La La and ShopRunner.

As reported, the three businesses were spun off to Rubin after ebay acquired GSI Commerce Inc.  for $2.4 billion in June. Rubin owns 70 percent of the spun-off businesses, with eBay owning the other 30 percent.

Fanatics LLC, the largest piece, is an online seller of sports merchandise for college and professional sports teams, conferences and leagues. Rue La La offers members sale-priced designer merchandise and daily deals in their home regions; and ShopRunner Inc. enables members to get free, two-day shipping on goods they buy online from a network of merchants.

In an interview with the Philadelphia Business Journal, Rubin said will top the $1 billion revenue mark next year.

“Each of [the three] businesses has a chance to be one of the largest private businesses in the world,” said Rubin, who founded and ran GSI Commerce.

The Fanatics that is part of Kynetic also includes the licensed sports merchandise operations that GSI had before buying it. Those posted revenue of $300 million last year and included the e-commerce operations of the National Football League    , Major League Baseball    , the National Basketball Association    , the National Hockey League    , NASCAR    and ESPN    .

Rubin anticipates Fanatics will post revenue of $600 million to $700 million next year. He said the company employs 500 in Jacksonville and will have 100 employees in Kynetic’s Conshohocken office when that opens. Fanatics is still run by Alan Trager, its CEO prior to its purchase by GSI.
