Gregory Mountain Products added a new product designer to its research and design division. John McGuire joins the Gregory team with experience in the outdoor backpack, commuter/lifestyle and travel bag categories.

Most recently, McGuire worked at JanSport in San Leandro, Calif., where he worked on initiatives in the day pack, technical outdoor and commuter/lifestyle categories. Before that, he worked for three years at Timbuk2 in San Francisco, where he designed bags and packs for the cycling, travel and lifestyle markets.

McGuire holds degrees in industrial design from Academy of Art University in San Francisco and in ergonomics from Tufts University outside Boston.

He said Gregory’s heritage in designing great-carrying packs – as well as founder Wayne Gregory’s reputation in the industry for building quality products – attracted him to seek out the job.

McGuire is an avid backpacker and fly-fisherman, and said he’s looking forward to spending more time skiing this winter with Gregory’s location close to the Sierras.
