Goody's Family Clothing reported total sales for the fiscal month of March 2004 of $125.7 million, an increase of 3.4% from total sales of $121.6 million for the fiscal month of March 2003 (the five weeks ended April 5, 2003). Comparable store sales for March 2004 increased 0.25% over March 2003.
Total sales for the first two months of fiscal 2004 (February and March) increased 7.9% to $202.7 million from $187.9 million during the same period last year. Comparable store sales for the first two months of fiscal 2004 increased 5.2% from the same period last year.
“I am pleased to report that we achieved a comparable store sales increase for March 2004,” commented Robert M. Goodfriend, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “We began the month with warmer weather and outstanding business. However, as the month progressed with much cooler weather, we saw a decline in our sales trends. I believe we are strategically positioned with an excellent inventory assortment and, once the weather becomes more seasonal, I expect our business trend to return to more acceptable levels. Our Duck Head business, which was launched on March 14th, has been well received by our customers and is performing in accordance with our expectations. We expect that Duck Head will be an exceptional brand for Goody's.”
