“The Company achieved its tenth consecutive month of comparable store
sales increases, even though snow and ice in some of its markets had a
negative impact on sales during several weekends in December,” said
Robert M. Goodfriend, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Overall inventory
levels per square foot at the end of fiscal December 2003 were similar to
those at the end of the same period last year. Our current business plan calls
for comparable store sales for the fiscal month of January 2004 to increase in
the low mid-single digits, resulting in an increase of slightly over 1% for
the fourth quarter as a whole compared with the same periods last year.”
