According to Golf DataTech, golf rounds played in the U.S. were up 32.9 percent in December 2011 compared to December 2010. Public access play was up 34.2 percent for the month and private course activity was up 29.5 percent.
A total of 3225 courses are represented in this report.
For the full year in 2011, rounds played were down 2.5 percent.
By region for the month of December, the biggest gain came in East North Central, surging 370.7 percent; followed by Mid Atlantic, 238.2 percent; New England, 187.1 percent; West North Central, 93.1 percent; South Atlantic, 52.5 percent; Pacific, 32.4 percent; and South Central, 3.0 percent. The one declining region was Mountain, down 13 percent.
