Soles4Souls, a charity committed to providing shoes to people in need, is urging people to go barefoot on October 11 “to spread awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child's life, by taking off their own.”

The organization noted that every day millions of children walk several miles to school and home barefoot, susceptible to disease and unable to participate in sports and other activities with their friends.

Barefoot4Them has a simple concept-promise your support by signing up on their website and Soles4Souls will send you the story of a boy or girl in a developing nation affected by the need for shoes.  And on October 11, each “barefoot ambassadors' are being encouraged to fill the streets of local towns and aisles of local grocery stores will go barefoot for the child.

“Barefoot4Them was the brainchild of our team who wanted supporters to have a personal connection with our cause,” said David Graben, Executive Vice President of Soles4Souls.  “By carrying a card with the name and face of a child who needs shoes, it is a poignant way to explain to others why they are going barefoot and for whom they are going barefoot,” he said.

“We are very much blessed because of this day of Barefoot4Them. Thank you so much. I really can't tell how happy we are for you and whenever we wear the shoes you sent to us we always get a big smile.” –Samuel, Peace Island, Uganda

Companies, schools, and churches are encouraged to sign up and participate in the one-day event.  Once individuals receive their child's story, they can use social media to spread the word-talk about their child on Facebook or tweet a photo of their bare feet.  For more information on the day, visit www.giveshoes.org/barefoot4them.
