Gita Sporting Goods Ltd. Shared today that Sandy Nicholls, director of marketing, will retire February 24.
Nicholls joined Gita in 1978 as the first employee of the then one-man operation founded by Giorgio Andretta. His tenure saw the company grow from a part-time operation into a distribution and marketing powerhouse in the high-end bicycle sector. He was influential in Gita’s introduction and promotion of many Italian cycling brands to the U.S. market, to the creation of the Giordana apparel brand and to Gita’s ongoing support of bike racing at all levels.
“Sandy’s decision will bring to a close a remarkable 39-year career at Gita. We are at the same time both happy and sad to bear this news. His impact on the growth and direction of Gita has been significant since day one. It has not only been a working relationship but a very close personal one as well. I consider Sandy a very good friend and confidant. We have experienced many changes and growth within the business, travelled thousands of miles together, shared pizza and vino, laughter, and good times. I wish him all the best in this next chapter.” said Giorgio Andretta, president.
Giordana Andretta Walker will assume Nicholls’s daily responsibilities.
