<span style="color: #333333;">Designed for the active consumer looking for a comfortable shoe for adventure travel and everyday use, the Tikal offers a fresh design and a natural feel thanks to high-quality leathers and a unique construction. Worn with or without socks, the Tikal is the perfect shoe for transitioning to Spring/Summer or as an alternative to sandals.

Bill Dodge, CEO, Garmont International NA, pictured above, gave SGB more insight into the genesis of the shoe.

Why The Name Tikal? The Tikal National Park is a World Heritage Site. In the heart of the jungle, surrounded by lush vegetation, lies one of the major sites of Mayan civilization inhabited from the 6th century B.C. to the 10th century A.D., pictured left. The ceremonial center contains superb temples and palaces, and public squares accessed by means of ramps. Remains of dwellings are scattered throughout the surrounding countryside.

The Tikal model is in our Active Travel collection, and we believe these shoes to be ideally suited for adventure travel to sites like these.

Why is the Tikal collection a great choice for transitioning into the warmer Spring/Summer weather?  This Jungle Park-inspired shoe specifically adapts to warm weather. It is designed to be worn with or without socks and is more supportive, protective and versatile than an alternative such as a sandal.

Who designed the shoe and what is special about the materials and construction? It was designed in Italy and is all about comfort, from the seamless, one-piece, Italian, full-grain leather with the smooth side in to the ingenious foot bed with a cotton top and imbedded raw coconut fibers, which very effectively and naturally pull moisture away from your feet.

What is special about the footbed? Under the footbed is a natural cork lasting board and a cotton-lined coconut hair footbed insert, which will take the shape of your foot, making them even more comfortable the longer you wear the shoes. The combination of the two results in a breathable shoe ideal for travel or leisure time activities.

What inspired the style? The style was inspired by our well-known Dragontail approach shoes, which should instill confidence in the Tikal’s performance.

How well has the Tikal collection sold at retail? The Tikal is available now at retail stores and online, in two color options for women (grape and sand) and men (navy and beige). The shoe has sold into a variety of shops, from outdoor to fashion shoe stores, and the reorders so far have been brisk.
