Garmin has released its Edge MTB GPS bike computer, designed specifically for mountain bikers. This device features full-color maps, new enduro and downhill ride profiles, and is the first bike computer in its class with 5 Hz GPS recording, allowing riders to see their trail lines in greater detail during descents. The device offers up to 14 hours of battery life in demanding use cases and up to 26 hours in battery saver mode.

“Mountain biking continues to grow in popularity around the world, and that’s why we’re excited to add Edge MTB to our lineup of innovative cycling products. Designed by mountain bikers, for mountain bikers, our latest bike computer is purpose-built for those looking to improve their technical skills and speed on the trails. With powerful 5 Hz GPS recording, colorful trail mapping, mountain bike metrics, training plans, and recovery insights, Edge MTB is ready for the next ride,” said Susan Lyman, VP of Consumer Sales and Marketing at Garmin.

Key features:

  • Seven over-molded buttons resist mud and grit, while the scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass lens withstands extreme rides. The included top tube and MTB mounts offer mountain bikers various mounting options tailored to their riding style.
  • Track the total ascent and descent for each run and the ride overall.
  • Automatically track a run each time a descent is completed to ensure the return to the top via shuttle or ski lift doesn’t affect ride stats.
  • View trail lines in greater detail when using the Enduro or Downhill ride profiles, thanks to the device’s technology that records location data.
  • Set timing gates along a course to track split times during a race or ride and view them in real-time to see if those times are ahead or behind the targeted splits. Then, review post-ride performance data to gain a better understanding of how to improve.
  • Access worldwide MTB trail data from Trailforks; use Trendline Popularity Routing to find the best routes most traveled by other Garmin cyclists; use preloaded Garmin TopoActive maps to ride paved and unpaved pathways, streets and more; or access maps and activity profiles for different types of riding off the trails—road, gravel and more.
  • View names of trails up ahead, elevation profiles, the distance back to start, trail difficulty, the primary direction of travel, and more.
  • Track mountain bike metrics, including jump count, jump distance, hang time, grit, and flow.
  • Ride with safety features that include LiveTrack and incident detection, plus compatibility with the Varia line of cycling radars and smart lights, as well as inReach satellite communicators.
