Online retailer Tennis-Point, formerly owned by Signa Sports United, was acquired by Fromuth Racquet Sports.
Tennis-Point was formerly Midwest Sports, owned and operated by Greg and Lisa Wolf for over 30 years before being acquired by Signa Sports United in 2021 and changed the company’s name.
With financial and management challenges, Signa sold the company to a private equity firm, which then sold it to Fromuth.
In January 2024, a consortium of investors led by the financial investor Orlando Capital V, including company founder and current Managing Director Christian Miele, agreed to acquire and continue the business of Tennis-Point.
“It’s been a challenging ride,” Tennis-Point officials stated, “but we are thrilled to return to our family-owned and operated principles and to deliver meaningful value to our tennis customers and the community. Our primary focus is to rebuild our business and earn the trust of our partners, suppliers and customers.”
Fromuth, based in West Lawn, PA, has been a wholesale racquet sports distributor for 50 years, with a distribution network that extends to pro shops, country clubs, independent retailers, and teams across the U.S.
Tennis-Point will be operated as a separate business and, in the short term, will keep the Tennis-Point name and contact details.
For Tennis-Point, the management team and employees in Cincinnati will remain in their current roles. Patrick Shields Jr. will serve as president, Pat Shields, Sr. as CEO and Greg Wolf will continue to serve as an advisor to ensure a seamless transition and provide guidance as Fromuth enters the consumer e-commerce tennis business.
