Foot Locker opened its first CCS store in the first quarter in Santa Monica, CA. A second skate-themed store will open at Garden State
Plaza mall in Paramus, N.J., on June 5. Speaking last week at Foot Locker's annual meeting, Matt Serra, the company's chairman and CEO, said the company “plans to very gingerly roll out CCS stores.”
He added, “Action sports is
a very fast-growing business. We made that acquisition because we
wanted to be in it quickly.”
Serra also said the company is looking at add snowboarding to CCS' mix in the future. Currently, the business focuses on skateboarding footwear, apparel and equipment.
On the company's fourth-quarter conference call last week, Serra said that although that CCS sales were somewhat below
expectations and profits were essentially a breakeven. He still
believes CCS has an opportunity to generate a double-digit profit
margin rate for the year.
Foot Locker, Inc. acquired CCS, a skate catalog and
e-commerce site, from dELiA*s, Inc. for $103.2 million in cash last November.
