Canadian Tire reported same-store sales at its FGL Sports segment grew 5.1 percent in the fourth quarter. Comps at Sport Chek climbed 4.9 percent.
Net retail sales at FGL Sports were up 6.4 percent in the quarter. The segment includes Sport Chek, Hockey Experts, Sports Experts, National Sports, Intersport, Pro Hockey Life and Atmosphere.
For the year, FGL Sports’ 2016 retail sales were up 6.9 percent and same-store sales increased 6 percent. Sport Chek banner same-store sales increased 7.6 percent.
Companywide, consolidated revenue increased 7.7 percent to Canadian $3.64 billion. Excluding Petroleum, consolidated revenue increased 7.9 percent. Diluted EPS was Canadian $3.46 in the quarter, an increase of Canadian $0.45 per share, or 15.1 percent, compared to the prior year.
For the full year, consolidated revenue was up 4.8 percent for the full year, excluding Petroleum. Including Petroleum, consolidated revenue for the full year increased 3.3 percent to Canadian $12.7 billion. Diluted EPS for the year increased 7.1 percent to Canadian $9.22 over the prior year, which included a Canadian 33 cents per share gain from the sale of surplus property.
