The Athlete’s Foot (TAF) hosted a grand opening for the retailer’s latest store opening at Korte Lijnbaan in Rotterdam on Friday, December 13. TAF said in a media release, “The innovative new retail space represents a new ‘TAF 3.0’ concept that has been successfully tried and tested in the USA, now tailored to meet the unique cultural landscape and consumer demands of Rotterdam.”
“As the largest sales space for The Athlete’s Foot in Europe, this latest store will not only enhance the shopping experience but also serve as a vibrant hub for the local community. The store features bespoke artwork by renowned street artist OX Alien, which celebrates Rotterdam’s rich history and its significant role in the Dutch streetwear scene. OX Alien, known for his unique style and contributions to urban art, embodies the creative spirit of Rotterdam and will bring a dynamic visual narrative to the store,” the company stated in an email.
Operated by local franchisee Mounaim Kasimi and Dutch professional footballer Tonny Vilhena, midfielder for the Super League Greece club Panathinaikos, this store “exemplifies TAF’s commitment to community engagement and ownership.” Partnering with local leaders “reinforces TAF’s dedication to fostering community-driven initiatives and supporting local economies,” said the company.
“Since 1971, The Athlete’s Foot has been at the forefront of promoting athletic-inspired fashion and community empowerment. The opening of this location aligns with TAF’s brand promise of “All for Impact,” emphasizing the importance of making meaningful contributions to the communities it serves,” the company statement noted.
The company said Rotterdam is a key city for TAF, with ongoing investments in events and initiatives, including Cult North, Rotterdam Street Culture Week, Project Fearless, and Sneakerness Rotterdam.
Romano Cinelli, VP and general manager of The Athlete’s Foot EMEA, stated, “We are thrilled to bring our ‘TAF 3.0’ store concept to Rotterdam for the first time in Europe. This location is not just about retail; it is about creating a space that resonates with the community and celebrates our shared passion for street culture. We believe that our investment here will have a lasting impact on both our customers and the local landscape.”
