The Ombraz sunglass brand is reporting that it has relocated the manufacture of its armless sunglasses from Asia to a family-owned workshop in Northern Italy.
“Ombraz has come a long way since hand-sewing the first run of Ombraz in their barn HQ back in 2018,” the company said in a media release. “This transition is 100 percent aligned with their most mission-critical core values, and they are deeply proud to elevate the craftsmanship and integrity of their product and brand.”
The brand’s new manufacturing partner in Italy, which began as a small assembly shop in the 1960s, has evolved into a respected producer of eyewear. This transition brings all manufacturing under one roof, which the company reported “is a major milestone in Ombraz’s net-benefit journey.”
“Closed-loop systems are the backbone of their new production, which runs entirely on solar energy and features state-of-the-art electric injection molding machines that dramatically reduce oil use,” the company said in a media release. “Every drop of water used in production is captured and recirculated, upholding a multigenerational legacy of performance and artisan production.”
The new production facility also eliminates long-haul shipping from Asia, reducing transport-related emissions. The brand’s packaging will be sourced in Europe, and the sunglass collection will be hand-painted and hand-assembled, then shipped from Italy to the brand’s new fulfillment center, “completing a tightly integrated, low-impact European supply chain.”
The company also reports that producing its sunglasses in Italy provides “some insulation against the current volatility of global tariffs and trade policies.”
Ombraz will engrave “Made In Italy” on the right zip-clip of each pair of sunglasses. which uses recycled nylon cord instead of sunglass “arms.”
