2021 marks the tenth year of the Etnies Buy A Shoe, Plant A Tree (BASPAT) program. Etnies is continuing the program in partnership with Trees for the Future, an agroforestry non-profit that trains farmers through a four-year program, called the Forest Garden Approach, where thousands of trees are planted that restore a farmer’s soil them to grow fruits and vegetables for sale and consumption.
The BASPAT Program has “planted more than two million trees on three continents over the last decade,” said Etnies.
The program started in Costa Rica with Etnies’ commitment to planting one tree for every Jameson 2 Eco shoe sold in its line. After reaching 35,000 trees in the Maleku Reserve, Etnies partnered with Trees for the Future and expanded the program.
“The Forest Garden approach plants trees and provides food security, increased income, restored land, and carbon capture reaching nine of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals,” said Etnies.
The Forest Gardens are currently being created in countries located in East and West Africa. To increase the number of trees planted, Etnies launched an Earth Day Tree Drive. For every online order at etnies.com between April 22-30, Etnies will donate a tree to the BASPAT program.
