EMU Australia has added Australian surf legend Peter “PT” Townend to the EMU North American team. In his new role, Townend will serve as brand manager, working in conjunction with the marketing and sales management on overall brand direction for all facets of the company from sales, to marketing and promotions.

“PT has been involved in the surfing and action sports since the 1970’s and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to EMU,” said Greg Licht, president of EMU Australia. “He is a proven brand builder and will help EMU leverage our heritage and carry our authentic spirit cohesively through all aspects of the brand.”

A former World Champion Surfer, Townend comes to EMU from long and diverse background in the surf and action sports industries. Most recently, he served as the marketing and events director of Primedia’s Action Sports Group after a three-year stint as the publisher of both Surfing and SG (Surfing Girl) Magazines. In 2003, Townend was selected by the OC Metro, Orange County’s Business Lifestyle Magazine as one of “OC’s Most Influential Sports Figures”, and was recently inducted into the International Surfing Hall of Fame. In addition to his new role at EMU Australia’s San Clemente office, Townend oversees strategic development for his new company, ActivEmpire, an action sports consulting company.

A native of Australia, Townend now resides in Huntington Beach, California close to his three grown children. Outside his numerous business ventures and active time in the water, Townend donates his time to the community as the walk-on surf coach for Dwyer Middle School.
