Author Timothy Egan will be the featured speaker at The Conservation Alliance Breakfast at the upcoming Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. Egan’s presentation will put the current battle over America’s public lands in historical context, tracing their path from Teddy Roosevelt to Donald Trump. The breakfast, which is open to the public, is Tuesday, July 24, 7:00-8:50 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency, Capitol Ballroom, in Denver.
As the outdoor industry focuses more energy on protecting and defending our public lands, Egan’s presentation will provide insights into how our public lands, or “commons,” have become threatened.
Egan is a veteran chronicler of the American West whose interests range wide across the American landscape and American history. He is a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter, a popular columnist and a National Book Award-winning author.
When not working on books, Egan writes a weekly online column for The New York Times. Before that, he worked as one of the newspaper’s national correspondents, roaming the West and serving as its Pacific Northwest correspondent. Egan is the author of several books, including The Big Burn: Teddy Roosevelt and the Fire That Saved America. Egan’s book The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl won the 2006 National Book Award for nonfiction.

In addition to Egan’s talk, The Conservation Alliance Breakfast will feature a review of the grants the organization made during its Winter 2018 funding cycle, and successes that grantees achieved thus far in 2018.
