Under Armour is planning ahead to December 2016, when the brand will release its apparel collaboration with action movie star and WWE wrestler Dwayne Johnson.
Johnson, who was named by Forbes as the world’s highest-paid actor in 2016, teased the UA prototypes on his official Instagram account @therock.
He writes, “There’s a real culture of hunger at Under Armour and the product we’re creating together goes beyond playing in any game, but rather pushing you – regardless of age, gender, culture or profession – to simply be the best version of yourself possible. There’s winning at games, then there’s winning at life. We’re creating a lifestyle brand. For everyone.”
Beside Johnson in the photo was UA’s Senior Graphic Design Manager for Mens and Boyd Apparel, Josh Richardson, who displayed a range of shirts, hoodies, pants and even bags. Richardson has been with Under Armour since 2013, and worked as an apparel graphic designer for New Era Cap prior to that.
Johnson’s photo also teased a women’s line coming soon, and a signature shoe for “all you sneaker heads.”
Is the brand targeting holiday shoppers with its December release date? Probably. Teaming with a superstar is one way to boost sales; however, it may not be the best strategy for UA as they pursue their bid to be taken seriously in the running space.
