Dick’s Sporting Goods is reportedly seeking village financial support to open a House of Sports in Orland Park, a suburb of Chicago.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Dick’s is looking to convert a 200,000-square-foot former Sears anchor space at the Orland Square shopping center, which has been empty since 2018.
Dick’s’ House of Sports’ concept stores are typically around 120,000 square feet versus about 50,000 square feet for a traditional Dick’s Sporting Goods retail location.
Vincent Corno, SVP of Real Estate for Dick’s, recently told village trustees that a House of Sports could cost $40 million to $50 million to complete, including purchasing property and building out the space, but he did not disclose how much financial support Dick’s would need for the Orland Park project.
The Tribune reported that the village is studying the creation of a tax increment financing district to support the build-out.
Dick’s currently has 22 House of Sports locations, with plans to have 35 open by the close of 2025 and 75 by the end of 2027.
