Dick's Sporting Goods is planning to open a store on South Westnedge Avenue in Portage, MI, according to mlive.com. The store will be built in the location of a former Kmart.
Pittsburgh-based Dick's Sporting Goods has nearly 500 stores that sell sporting goods equipment, clothing and footwear. The new Portage location would be the first store in Kalamazoo County.
A store developed in the former Kmart location would be in close proximity to a Dunham's Sports location – which is across the street – as well an an MC Sports location. It will occupy an extensive space left vacant by Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based Sears, the owner of the Kmart chain, when it closed two local Kmart stores in February 2010.
