According to Golf Datatech, golf rounds played on a national level were down 9.0 percent in December 2013 compared to December 2012. For 2013, rounds were down 4.9 percent.
In December, public access play was down 6.2 percent and private course activity was down 16.8 percent.
By region, the biggest decline in December came in East North Central, 62.7 percent; followed by West North Central, 51.4 percent; New England, down 47.3 percent; Mid Atlantic, 43.1 percent; South Central, 26.5 percent; Mountain, 7.0 percent; and South Atlantic, 4.0 percent. The one positive region was Pacific, sporting an 18.5 percent gain.
