Dahlgren has implemented new programs and staffing to further assist in shortening lead times, fulfilling at-once orders, and increasing inventory availability. The first of many changes, Dahlgren Footwear relocated last year from Southern California to Portland to operate the business in an outdoor industry hub.

President and founder, Ray Dahlgren explains, “In order for any company to remain strong, it is necessary to be agile, flexible and constantly evaluate, making changes where appropriate. Moving to Portland was the first step of many in that effort. I have always loved the Pacific Northwest and the time was right to make a move that puts us in an area that understands the outdoor industry and gives us direct access to all the creativity and knowledge that exist here.”

To compliment the move, Ray Dahlgren has reorganized his executive team and appointed Kris Dahlgren to the position of Vice President. Kris joined Dahlgren in 1995 and has been central in the handling of day to day operations. In her new and expanded role, Kris will use the same leadership and vision used in creating the Dahlgren line for the past several years to guide organizational development and long-term strategic planning.

“I’m very excited about this new step,” Kris explains. “I’ve grown up in the industry and with the product, which gives me a unique perspective on the future of this company. I look forward to pushing design boundaries and taking to all new levels the incredible concept that Ray developed and patented.” Additional staff changes include promoting experienced industry members Alex Kachirisky to Operations Manager and Gregg Zullo to Production Manager.

A key component to the future success of Dahlgren Footwear is their partnership with Slane Hosiery, a well respected mill based in High Point, NC, in business for nearly a century. Proud to be keeping production in the U.S., Dahlgren Footwear began establishing production with Slane last summer and product is now beginning to ship. Dahlgren and Slane have partnered to enhance the already popular brand with new technology that even further increases the quality, fit, feel, and performance of the sock.

Cornerstone styles, such as the Light Hiking and Backpacking are now shipping with features such as patented wicking channels and wicking rings to increase the rate and quantity of moisture transfer. “Initial testing has shown a dramatic improvement in performance with this new technology. For the first time, we are now able to add the wicking rings and channels to styles such as the Backpacking and Alaskan,” states Kris Dahlgren.

“Right now, our focus is on refining the design of the existing line with special attention to improved availability and delivery. We are especially excited about Slane’s commitment to our brand, to design innovation, and their ability to implement a new production strategy that will give us a “Never Out” status on selected styles.” The “Never Out” system ensures that the best selling color of each of the key styles is guaranteed to be in stock and will be in place for Dahlgren’s Fall ’07 deliveries.
