Costco Wholesale Corp. reported net sales of $18.21 billion for the retail month of March, the five weeks ended April 4, 2021, an increase of 17.6 percent from $15.49 billion last year.
Comparable sales climbed 13.9 percent in the U.S., 28.3 percent in Canada, and 16.4 percent in Other International. Total same-store sales rose 16.0 percent overall. E-commerce sales climbed 57.7 percent.
Comparable sales, excluding the impacts from changes in gasoline prices and foreign exchange, rose 11.3 percent in the U.S., 13.0 percent in Canada, 7.7 percent in Other International and 11.1 percent overall. E-commerce vaulted 54.5 percent.
This year’s five-week March retail month had one fewer shopping day versus last year due to Easter’s calendar shift. This negatively impacted total and comparable sales by approximately one and one-half to two percent.
For the thirty-one weeks ended April 4, 2021, Costco reported net sales of $111.37 billion, increasing 15.7 percent from $96.25 billion during the same period last year.
