Costco Wholesale Corporation  reported net sales of $10.05 billion for the month of December, the five weeks ended January 1, 2012, an increase of nine percent from $9.19 billion during the similar five-week period last year.


For the first 18 weeks of its reporting period ended Jan. 1, 2012, the company reported net sales of $33.18 billion, an increase of 11 percent from $29.78 billion during the similar period last year.

Inflation in gasoline prices had a positive impact on comparable sales, particularly for the 18-week period. Foreign currencies had a slightly negative impact for the five-week period and a slightly positive impact for the 18-week period. Excluding these effects, comparable sales for the five-week and eighteen-week periods were as follows:
