The City of Glenwood Springs, CO is spending $45,000 to study the feasibility of creating an outdoor recreation incubator in its downtown to help revitalize the city’s core, according to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent newspaper.

If created, it would be the only incubator in the state focused on outdoor recreation, according to city’s Downtown Development Authority (DDA). The incubator would seek to help outdoor apparel, footwear and gear companies.

The study will try to determine the market for potential start-up companies, probable income and expenses based on the local market, operating costs, and potential sources for grants and other funding, said Leslie Bethel, executive director for the DDA.

If approved, the Glenwood incubator would select three to five start-ups though an application process and then locate them in available downtown commercial spaces of 5,000 to 7,500 square feet.
