Climb High, the U.S. distributor of Mammut has announced the winner of the second annual Mammut Outdoor Appreciation Scholarship award. Jon Shea of Willamette University in Salem, Oregon will receive full tuition, round-trip airfare, and full outfitting of alpine clothing awarded by Mammut for the Outward Bound classic course of his choice. Shea was chosen based upon his dedication to multiple outdoor pursuits, demonstrated leadership, and commitment to conservation. Shea currently heads up Willamettes student outdoor program, while pursuing a degree in environmental science.
“Our intent with this award and Mammuts partnership with Outward Bound is to nurture outdoor leadership in young people,” said Jeff Cunningham, Marketing Director for Climb High/Mammut. “Jon has demonstrated a natural propensity for outdoor leadership, and Outward Bounds program is an opportunity to strengthen those leadership skills while fulfilling personal goals, like pushing oneself and exploring outdoor activities that one has not yet tried.”
Mammut and Outward Bound created the Outdoor Appreciation Scholarship Award with the intent of fostering outdoor leadership skills in young adults demonstrating a promising passion for the outdoors. The application filing period for the 2005 award will begin November 1, 2004 and extend through April 15th, 2005.
