The Clean Water Restoration Act, which will protect drinking water, as well as the streams, lakes and wetlands that are important to fish, wildlife and outdoor recreation, has been reintroduced in the U.S. Senate.

This bill responds to the 2001 SWANCC v. United States Army Corps of Engineers U.S. Supreme Court decision and dramatically increases the protection afforded to waters, especially small streams and wetlands, which have been protected by the Clean Water Act for more than 35 years. The goal of this new legislation is to restore protections threatened by recent government decisions, which placed millions of acres of wetlands and other “isolated” bodies of water at risk of losing federal protection.
