Chrome Industries, a San Francisco-based company that designs and manufactures useful and durable gear for urban mobility, named Chris Silverman as its new president.

Silverman, an experienced merchant and brand builder, brings more than two decades of experience working with successful companies such as Levi Strauss, X-Large apparel (with the Beastie Boys), Mossimo Australia, twenty two shoes and, most recently, led the global expansion for Australian-based Volley footwear.

Nearly 20 years ago, the first Chrome messenger bag was produced with a Juki sewing machine and a salvaged seatbelt buckle. Response to the unique design esthetic was immediate, earning the brand an indelible place within the fabric of the bike messenger, fixed freestyle and urban-commuter scene. Today, Chromes street-tested bags, footwear and apparel feature military grade materials made for people who live and ride the city.

Chrome is an incredibly authentic brand that is a favorite among an extremely discerning urban audience, said Silverman. We will always develop products that remain true to that core, while introducing the Chrome movement to an expanding audience of highly creative individuals who thrive in the city.

Silvermans hire represents Chromes commitment to building an iconic brand with a leadership team possessing the vision and expertise to honor a nearly 20-year heritage of uniqueness, resourcefulness, and excellence. The companys products are designed to adapt to the changing and unpredictable nature of city life. Utility and mobility are cornerstones of a product line up that is as comfortable to wear on a bike as in the bar.

Chrome sells wholesale and also operates Chrome Retail HUBS in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Portland, Seattle and has announced plans to open a location in in Minneapolis.
