Chaco will offer support to its Redefine Child Support fundraiser and hope to directly impact the lives of orphaned children in India at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market and WSA by selling its Headwaters Kids Sandal collection and donating $10 for each pair sold to the dZi Foundation’s Sikkim Happiness Home.

Located in Gangtok, the capitol of Sikkim, India, the Sikkim Happiness Home was established in 2003 by the dZi Foundation as a safe house for orphaned girls. The home is designed to provide shelter, food, medical care, education and emotional support to young girls lacking the influences of a healthy family environment and at risk for being sold into child labor or prostitution. It currently supports seventeen residents and in addition to providing for the girls’ basic daily care, it creates the positive environment they need to lay the foundation for a better life and brighter future.

“Chaco has supported the dZi Foundation over the years through our recycled shoe program,” said Chaco Director of Marketing Brian Scranton, “and we proudly expand our efforts in 2007 with the Redefine Child Support fundraiser to directly benefit the residents of the dZi’s Sikkim Happiness Home. Even a few thousand dollars raised through this tradeshow fundraising program can cover an orphan’s entire annual costs for shelter, food and medical care, and more importantly can provide a protected, caring community for the young girls in Sikkim, India who are in desperate need.”
