CES 2022, consumer technology’s largest trade show, has shifted to a three-day show from four days as a safety measure amid concerns about rising COVID variant infection rates. The Las Vegas event will run from January 5-7.

The change came as tech companies, including Microsoft and Google, in recent weeks backed out of in-person events opting instead for virtual connections at the show.

In a statement issued December 31, CES said that over 2200 exhibitors are confirmed to exhibit in person at this year. In the last two weeks, 143 additional companies signed up to exhibit in person.

“As the world’s most influential technology event, CES is steadfast in its pledge to be the gathering place to showcase products and discuss ideas that will ultimately make our lives better,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CTA. “We are shortening the show to three days and have put in place comprehensive health measures for the safety of all attendees and participants.”

CES said those that are unable to attend the show could join digitally with access to more than 40 live-streamed conference sessions, keynotes, select Media Days press conferences, and the ability to engage with CES exhibitors.
