Cybex International, Inc. saw a 9% increase in third quarter net sales
to $32.6 million from $29.9 million for the same period last year. The
company attributed the sales increase to “strong sales” of cardio
products and continued growth in the commercial equipment market.

Cardio sales increased 20% for the third quarter to $17.7 million over
the year-ago period, including $475,000 worth of Home Arc sales.
Strength equipment sales were flat for the third quarter at $12
million, while sales of other products, mostly parts and freight,
decreased 7% to $2.9 million for the quarter. Sales in North America
increased 8% to $23 million, while international sales increased 12% to
$9.6 million.

The company’s bottom line grew approximately 8000% as an income tax
provision included a benefit of $5.2 million, or approximately 29 cents
per diluted share, due to a reduction in the deferred tax valuation
reserve. As a result, the company posted net income of $4.6 million for
the quarter, or 25 cents per share, compared to net income of $503,000,
or 3 cents per share, or the year-ago quarter.
