Retail sales of team sporting goods in Canada by both big box and specialty retailers declined 2.2% in the first quarter and 2.1% in the second quarter, according to government data reported by the Canadian Sporting Goods Association this week.


The data come from a report commissioned by CSGA with Statistics Canada to track sporting goods retail sales figures.

 

The data show first quarter sales reached $107.7 million ($107.2mm), down 2.2% from $110.1 million ($109.7mm)  in the first quarter of 2007. In the second quarter, sales reached $118.7 million, down 2.1% from $121.2 million.

 

The figures cover sales of hockey, baseball, football, soccer, volleyball and basketball equipment and supplies.
