Maillot Baltex Inc., Canada's biggest swimsuit maker, last week
filed for bankruptcy and is exploring bids for a possible sale. Brands
manufactured by the company include Baltex, Body I.D. Swimsuits, Maïa
Canada, Be Creative and Silhouette Solution.

According to the Montreal Gazette, The Montreal-based Baltex, which
specialized in fashionable women's swimwear, was hurt by the strong
Canadian dollar and competition from Asia. The company did about
Canadian $100 million in annual sales. The bankruptcy affects 350 to
400 jobs.

Bankruptcy trustee Noubar Boyadjian told the Montreal Gazette that the
bankruptcy was already attracting a number of parties interested in
acquiring the brands.

“I'm inundated by interested buyers, but none of them are manufacturers,” said Boyadjian. “They are all importers.”
