After returning in 2014 to herald the 100th anniversary of Brooks, the Brooks Heritage Collection’s run is ending on June 1.

The collection will continue through spring 2017; after the end of the season, Brooks will sell through its remaining inventory through select retail stores and online at brooksheritagecollection.com.

Celebrating historic footwear styles from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, Brooks brought back many styles that have become fashion-forward over the years, including the Beast, Chariot and Vanguard. In total, the Brooks Heritage Collection brought back nine models over the last three years while also exploring a number of stories around the brand.

Much of Brooks’ product line, including many of its casual offerings, was phased out in 2001 after Jim Weber took over as CEO with the running category becoming the sole focus. The shift led to a strong turnaround, with Brooks now standing as the leading running shoe sold in the run specialty channel.

The move to phase out the collection comes despite several of its running-shelf competitors – including Asics, New Balance and Saucony – all finding sizable growth opportunities at urban and more fashion-oriented channels with retro and more-casual collections.

“We seized Brooks Running’s centennial as a moment to celebrate the company’s past footwear milestones in a contemporary way,” said Shane Downey, global director of Heritage. “The Brooks Heritage Collection gave us the opportunity to authentically pay tribute to that history and take it to new heights, allowing us to explore design, express our brand and deliver beautifully crafted footwear for the consumer seeking something new. After exploring premium interpretations of Brooks’ most iconic sneakers, we put the Heritage Collection back into the vault having given a nod to Brooks’ past while looking to its future.”

The last Brooks Heritage launch will be the Gelateria Collection, out on May 1.
