Bass Pro Shops has laid off 30 people at its Springfield corporate headquarters, according to Missouri’s News-Leader.

“The company is the strongest it’s ever been, but all businesses right now are facing some degree of challenge with the pressures of economy and as individuals too,” Larry Whitley, communications manager to Bass Pro, told the News-Leader.

Whitley added that the company doesn’t anticipate further layoffs, and assured that plans for new store openings through 2009 haven’t changed. Whitley also noted that severance packages, including pay for vacation time, would be offered to the former employees.
