Backcountry.com has again been named one of “the Top 50 Best of the Web” businesses by Internet Retailer magazine. The recognition is the second time in three years that the outdoor specialty online retailer has been pegged as one of the most progressive thinking businesses in the industry. Backcountry.com was recognized for the company’s micro niche marketing strategy which was implemented this year. The company opened four new online stores-DogFunk.com, TramDock.com, Explore64.com and SteepandCheap.com-to more accurately market to and serve very focused groups of customers.

“Backcountry.com represents the possibilities that the web affords to retailers-a start-up company that built a national brand using the Internet and now segments its market into profitable niches with subsites such as Dogfunk.com and Tramdock.com in ways that are not possible using traditional retailing channels,” says Kurt T. Peters, editor of Internet Retailer.
