According to Golf Datatech, golf rounds played were down 4.6 percent in August versus the same period a year ago.

Public access play was down 4.5 percent and private course activity was down 5.5 percent. There were 3,100 contributing golf courses used in this report.

The steepest decline came in South Central, tumbling 14.7 percent. Other regions seeing drops included East North Central, 7.8 percent; South Atlantic, 6.2 percent; West North Central, 4.5 percent and Mid Atlantic, 0.8 percent.

The regions seeing gains were New England, 1.6 percent; Mountain, 1.9 percent and Pacific, 1.2 percent.
