Arizona State University has decided to go back to Nike after a five-year stint with adidas in a move that is expected to be a bonus for Sun Devils recruiters and the teams financial outlook.
“Five years ago, we weren't in the position that we are today. Five years ago, we could not have had this competition between the two. It's indicative of where our program is going and how strong our product is,” Tom Collins, ASU Senior Associate Athletic Director, told a local paper. Collins went on to say that the team has not had any problems with the adidas contract, but that the move to Nike was, “really a business decision.”
The only details Collins provided are that the Nike contract is more advantageous than the existing five-year, $7 million adidas deal. ASU reconfigured the adidas contract two years ago to put more emphasis on equipment than cash. The current Nike deal will provide a combination of shoes, uniforms, equipment and cash.
