Astral’s Spring 2021 product lineup includes three new footwear styles and a new PFD material. The footwear includes two additions to its TR1 series of trail shoes, the Pisgah, TR1 Scuffler and the TR1 Loop — Astral’s first breathable waterproof boot. The brand is also showing a PFD, the Ceiba, which features a bluesign approved shell.
Astral’s first breathable waterproof boot, the Pisgah is built with a 100 percent recycled post-consumer plastic canvas. It’s built on the same grippy outsoles as the shoes in the TR1 series, and it also features a TPU welded toe cap for durability. The Pisgah owes its military-inspired look to CEO and designer Philip Curry’s time spent in Vietnam, where he absorbed the style and performance capabilities of several boots, including the kinds worn by the Viet Cong. Named for the National Forest near Astral’s Asheville, NC headquarters, the waterproof, breathable boot is suited for warm, wet environments, on the trail, or in town. The Pisgah is available in both men’s and women’s sizes.
Designed by women for women, the lightweight TR1 Loop is made for an out-and-back adventure. The engineered mesh upper is made from 100 percent recycled polyester for breathability and fast drying time. A TPU frame provides abrasion resistance and foot support, while the toe and heel are capped for protection. It’s built on the same Trail Grip outsole as other shoes in its TR1 series and features sticky G rubber with 5 mm lugs for traction. Drainage holes get rid of excess water. The shoe is machine washable and the footbed is treated with Polygiene to resist odors. Available in women’s sizes, in three colorways.
One of Astral’s most rugged trail shoes, the TR1 Scuffler is a lightweight trail shoe with quick-drying ripstop mesh and a TPU overlay for durability. Light foam at the collar and tongue offers added comfort, while a rigid Top Shank between the insole and outsole reduces foot fatigue by absorbing impact and conforming to the ground for a smooth ride over rugged terrain. It features the same G rubber trail grip outsole as the TR1 Loop and the other shoes in the TR1 series. Available in men’s sizes, in three colorways.
Made with a bluesign approved shell, the Ceiba is an eco-conscious PFD. Its front panels are filled with sustainable, Kapok—a natural floatant derived from the Ceiba pentandra tree—while the back panels are filled with recycled Gaia foam. The PFD offers nine adjustment points, fleece-lined pockets and is body-conforming. Best suited for cold waters, temperate climates and casual use from touring to light whitewater. This USCG Type III PFD is available in three colors.
