Arc’teryx Equipment, the maker of outdoor performance apparel and equipment, announced the return of the Arc’teryx Climbing Academy. The popular outdoor event will be held in the rugged climbing mecca of Squamish, British Columbia, from July 19-22, 2018.

The Climbing Academy is one of three mountain academies hosted by Arc’teryx across North America and Europe. The events create a unique environment to enable and inspire climbers and alpinists to develop their skills, experiences and self-sufficiency in the mountains.

“The continued success of these events is owed in part to the terrific community of climbers and mountaineers in each region who are dedicated to furthering education and skills development,” said Justin Sweeny, North American sports marketing manager. “The Squamish event draws hundreds of climbing enthusiasts, certified mountain guides and world-class athletes for three days of skills clinics, seminars and workshops, sharing and gaining valuable knowledge as a community.”

This year the Academy will feature more gym-to-crag technique clinics to accommodate for the growing volume of newcomers to the sport, while more experienced climbers can take advantage of new one-to-one guided opportunities and attempt classic routes on the Chief like Split Pillar and Angels Crest. Additional new clinics will include big-wall experiences, advanced rope work and a new overnight Bivy clinic.

In memory of climber and Arc’teryx athlete Marc André Leclerc, Thursday night’s kick-off evening will be a special tribute in his honor featuring both friends and fellow climbers, community remembrances, live music and festivities that celebrate Leclerc’s spirit.

Clinics and seminars are by registration. The public is welcome to join for live music, movie premiers, climbing trade fair, keynote speakers and the photography contest. All activities are hosted in downtown Squamish at the Pavilion Park and free of charge.

Clinic registration opens May 15, 2018. For more information about the Arc’teryx Climbing Academy registration and event schedules visit: quamish.arcteryxacademy.com.
